5 hooks that grow your following

Content that converts and content that builds a following isn't always the same thing.

  • Consumer neuroscience
  • Made for cold audiences
  • Wins the first two seconds

The problem

Cold audiences owe you nothing.

Cold audiences don't know you yet, they don't trust you yet, and they owe you nothing, so the hook can't just be interesting. It has to do something specific to the brain in the first two seconds, or they're gone.

These five templates are built on actual sales psychology and consumer neuroscience. Each one works because of something measurable happening in the reader's brain, not because someone on a podcast said it was a “best practice.”

Fill in the template for your niche. Post it. Watch what happens.

The templates

Five hooks. Five brain mechanisms.

Open a hook to get the template, a filled-in example, and the neuroscience behind why it works.

The template

POV: you've been [symptom of their problem] for [specific time frame] and you just found the person who's going to change that

The example

POV: you've been “about to start” your digital product business for six months and you just found the person who's going to make you actually do it

Works on the anterior cingulate cortex

Why this works

This hook does something really specific. It names a private embarrassment, the thing the reader has been carrying quietly, before they've said a word. The brain's anterior cingulate cortex fires when we feel deeply understood, and that neurological response is almost identical to the feeling of relief. So before the reader even knows who you are, their nervous system has already associated you with “this person gets me.”

The POV format also casts them as the main character of a story that hasn't ended yet. They have to keep watching to find out how it ends. That's not engagement bait. That's just how narrative tension works on the human brain.

Cold audiences don't follow strangers. They follow people who make them feel seen before they've asked to be.

Your move

Want some help personalizing these for your niche?

I realize these are pretty vague. It's tough to find hooks that will work for EVERY niche. But with Hook & Caption Bot, it's possible to come up with the ones that'll fit YOURS in like 5 seconds and grow your following like crazy.
